Right before our snowfall I went out for some pics and was
pleased to see this fuchsia.

Monday, November 29, 2010

I was surprised to discover these redtwig dogwood flowers
during our recent snowy weather.

Sunday, November 28, 2010

My little Japanese Maple sure was pretty in the snow.

Aren't these beautiful!

Friday, November 26, 2010

The other day I showed you some flowers against the snow,
they are outside the front door and have been holding on to
life. We had some snow and then we had some more snow
and it got a bit cold out, this is what's left of the flowers.
I look forward to seeing them again next spring.

This Alyssum is quite pretty in the snow, as to whether or not it lives
through the cold I'm not so sure. Nice thing about alyssum is that
it sets just the right amount of seeds, never too much.

This little rose is a trooper, although maybe it's just confused!
We had a cool summer, a beautiful fall and what the
heck is this cold stuff?
No matter, this rose is a pretty little thing.

I couldn't pass up this leaf in the snow.
Simply beautiful.

What a pretty screen, bamboo and brilliant fall leaves.

Saturday, November 20, 2010

Even though this isn't the best photo (the camera doesn't care for
cloudy weather much) I wanted you to see what I see out the
front door right now. Most of the summer flowers are gone but
these and a few others still hang on. The pineapple sage on the
right is getting ready to flower, hope it can make it even
though we may get snow soon.

A new use for a boot, as a weed smusher!
~
Oh and a holder of a pretty little marigold.

Thursday, November 18, 2010

In the background grows the silvery wormwood.
What are those purple flowers though?
  I would have to guess
and my guessing brain is tired tonight,
what do you think it is?

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

Bumblebee coming in for a landing.

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

I'm not sure what flower this is but the yellow in the photo kept
catching my eye. I was thinking it could be yellow
hawkweed but can't say for sure.
Does anyone know?

Fireweed is such a vibrant flower and it can be weedy if you let it.
I loved the flowers when I was a kid in Alaska, such a wonderful
break from winter. As a child I loved it because it was a weed
and grown ups don't care how much a child touches flowers
when that flower is a weed! Now that it has started growing
in my yard I am well aware it may be an issue for me
in my yard as I can't give it the space the fireweed
of my childhood had.

This is not a fall blooming rhododendron but it is flowering now
anyways. We've had a cooler summer and warmer fall than is normal
for us and you can see that by the various flowers popping out now.

When I planted the wildflowers this summer I watched with
anticipation for each bud to flower into whatever surprise
it was going to be.
The blue flax was a wonderful flower to have coming up,
I'm looking forward to more next summer.

When I see this picture with the 2 different types of lilies blooming
together I can't help but wonder if I planned this planting?!
A glowing asiatic lily in the background with a daylily in the front.
Happy summer colors!

Thursday, November 11, 2010

These Asiatic Lilies from this summer caught my eye this morning,
(the photo as there are none of these in the garden now).
They are only a year old in my garden and bloomed
quite nicely this summer, I am quite looking
forward to how much they fill in.
Yes they can grow in many regions and I do remember
some from my childhood in Alaska.

***blogger rotated the picutre, if anyone knows how to rotate it back I'd love to hear it***

This photo doesn't do the scene justice but I like it anways.
Mother Nature outdid herself in the Pacific Northwest this year!
You can find this at a pull off on Hwy 2 around mile marker 90 to 95!

This Holly grows in pots at the local mall. Quite pretty but beware those thorns actually look soft
but I wouldn't call them soft. I think this is a Gold Coast English Holly, a smaller evergreen hardy.
Only hardy though from zones 6-9, although I prefer the winterberry.

Sunday, November 7, 2010

A cute little cranesbill flowering away in during our summer.
These little fellows are hardy groundcovers that
prefer partial moist shade.
I tend to plant them were they get too much shade or
too much sun and they don't do as well.
This one is in partial shade and I'm hoping it
is happy there.

Yet another viewing of the black lace elderberry,
but what a viewing it is in it's fall splendor.

Mossy trees, another nature's garden in Leavenworth, WA.

Thursday, November 4, 2010

My birthday Orchid. The photo doesn't do them justice, oh
well it still looks beautiful.
I have a fascination with orchids, I hope that equates
into my being able to grow them well.
Of course the orchids in grocery stores are for novices which I am.

Nature's garden.

Wild roses while quite beautiful I am thankful for the
rose hips for amazing fall beauty.

Tuesday, November 2, 2010

Flowering kale and alyssum in pots on the front porch.
An easy way to add some color for the winter months, the kale
pretty much holds up to what winter can dish out.
Take care that the pots you use can be outside all winter
as most ceramic and clay pots aren't meant for
winter use.

Crazy looking mushrooms growing in Leavenworth, WA.
Such a stunning color, someone hiking before me must have
kicked one over on their way - I gave up mushroom
smushing when I was a little kid!
