I've always thought "who decides what is a weed?" there are many weeds that have to go, but are nice. They also seem to have the more resilient root systems also! I'm glad spring is on the way.
I actually allow some weeds but there are others that take over the whole place. I tolerate dandelions as I love the flowers and so do the pollinators, this weed though will end up everywhere. Weeds in the PNW grow like crazy! I have a buttercup that really does take over, as do the himalayan blackberry!!!
Wild plants, aka weeds, do seem to have the most hardy roots! Here, on our farm, we have a buttercup which literally covers the pastures in the spring; actually, the little plants have already come up and will winter over.
Sometimes I think - oh, this weed is so pretty, would it really be bad to leave it in? And I've done that a couple of times, but each time I learn why it's an evil weed!!!
