Winter Carrots

Look what I pulled out of the vegetable garden last week.

I should give you some basic information on how to grow
carrots during the winter.
Plant the seed in August and tend to them the way you
normally would. Come the colder winter
months if you live in a colder climate you can mulch them
with straw or enclose them in a hoop house.
These were unmulched except from the 2 inch layer
of weeds that surrounds the bed they are in.
This winter has been mild enough that they carrots have been
fine but last winter we had cold and snow and they grew
in the hoop house.

Why on earth am  I showing you a garbage can with dirty water?
This garbage can is clean but has a crack half way up so it
partly fills with rain water and this is where I wash my
winter vegetables.

Tomorrow I'm going to show you carrots and beets taken
from the same garden bed in September.
